I have decided that for this Hispanic Heritage month I will be doing something daily. Every day I will post about an Icon or someone who is important to our community!!
Today we will start with the amazing Rita Moreno!!!
I love this video because it has the amazing Diane Guerrero narrates the struggles the amazing Rita Moreno had to surpass to lead the way for every other Latina on screen today.
Couple of facts:
1. She was awarded the Peabody, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards.
2. Only three people ever have gotten all 5 awards.
3. She was the first Latina woman to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award.
4.She is known for her iconic role in West Side Story where she plays Anita. At this time West Side Story has been rebooted by the amazing Steven Spielberg!
5. West Side Story is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 18, 2020 by 20th Century Studios check it out!!
Check out the video and if you are an educator like I am show your students their icons, because at the end of the day, representation matters!!
This video is Rita Moreno, speaking first hand about the experiences she went through and what her struggles were in Hollywood!
